DIY MASKS FOR SKIN CARE

By Apoorva Prakash

Every time we realize how much we have damaged our skin, facemasks have always come to the rescue. Although pre-made facemasks are very readily available and applicable, they filter down to the fact that they only have an essence of something natural, followed by a list of chemicals. Other completely herbal or non-chemical face masks are just too pricy so here are some DIY homemade masks that you could easily make for all skin types!

Coffee is known to scare all the sleep away but another way than just chugging it is making face masks. For this you need

  • 4 TBSP unsweetened Cocoa Powder

  • 4 TBSP finely grounded Coffee Beans

  • 8 TBSP Milk. You can also use substitutes like Egg, or Essential Oils

This facemask helps reduce under-eye puffiness and brightens the skin. A few additional lemon drops could help people with very oily skin.

Application duration- 5 minutes

Apply it before your morning shower because if the facemask doesn’t then at least its preparatory time will rip you off of your sleep.

There is so much goodness in this mask. It is rich with nutrients which help best to fight problems of tanned skin. If you’ve had a rough day on a beach and your skin hurts, don’t worry! We’ve got you covered. For this you need

  • 1 Egg White

  • 4 TBSP Lemon Juice

  • 3 TBSP Greek Yogurt

  • 1 TBSP Honey

  • 4 TBSP Essential Oils

We’ve established the goodness of yoghurt and honey but there is so much more nourishment to this mask than just that. Lemon Juice deeply cleanses the skin with dirt that has percolated deep within while egg whites strengthen the skin. Add little essential oils to let your skin breathe during application and rest.

Application Duration- until dried up.

The mask must be preferably applied at night (before sleeping) as the skin produces natural oils which are good for our skin at night which further nourishes and adds a natural glow.

Yoghurt helps a lot to cure irritation, skin-burn, rashes and boils. Its cooling effect is very quick and an instant relief is always guaranteed. For this, you will need

  • 1 cup Yogurt

  • ½ cup Oatmeal

  • 1 TBSP Honey

While the yoghurt helps in cooling, oatmeal helps to gently exfoliate rather than sugar or baking soda which can bring microscopic cuts. Honey adds a glow and further smoothen the skin.  This mask is ideal during summertime.

Application duration- until it dries up a bit

The mask can be applied at any given time of the day, preferably during noon.

  • 1/2 ripe avocado

  • 1 teaspoon plain organic yogurt

  • 1 teaspoon of honey

This moisturizing mask is great for stressed-out skin from a day outdoors. Mash the avocado until it's soft and then mix in the yogurt and honey until it forms a paste. Apply to your face and leave on for 10-15 minutes. For a more intense dose of hydration, incorporate one or two teaspoons of virgin olive oil into the formula, which instantly softens and smoothes skin.
